Why does the car starter make a rattling sound and can't start?

Apr.09.2024

The starter makes a rattling sound, and it cannot start because of: lack of battery power, slack belt, generator failure, controller failure, charging line failure, battery maintenance or aging need to be replaced, motor failure, motor starting gear wear serious need to be replaced, and the starting connection metal block in the motor control mechanism is seriously oxidized, resulting in poor starting contact.

(1) The starter is divided into DC starter, gasoline starter, compressed air starter and so on according to the working principle. Most of the internal combustion engines use direct current starter, which is characterized by compact structure, simple operation and easy maintenance. Gasoline starter is a small gasoline engine with clutch and variable speed mechanism, which has large power and is less affected by temperature, and can start a large internal combustion engine, and is suitable for high cold area. The compressed air starter is divided into two categories, one is to drive compressed air into the cylinder in accordance with the working order, and the other is to drive the flywheel using an air motor. The use of compressed air starters is close to that of gasoline starters and is usually used for starting large internal combustion engines. The DC starter is composed of DC series motor, control mechanism and clutch mechanism. It is dedicated to starting the engine and requires strong torque, so the current to be passed is very large, reaching hundreds of amps. Dc motor at low speed when the torque is large, high speed when the torque gradually becomes smaller, very suitable for starting the motor. The starter adopts DC series motor, the rotor and stator parts are wound with relatively thick rectangular section copper wire; The driving mechanism adopts reduction gear structure; The control mechanism adopts electromagnetic magnetic suction mode.

(2) The starter often fails to rotate or rotates slowly, and in this case it should be checked from the following aspects:

The battery has no power or weak power, so the starter can not turn or turn slowly.

The starter wire is loose or off, and the switch or adsorption switch fails.

The brush is worn or the brush surface is not correct, and the spring is weak, resulting in poor contact with the rectifier.

Short circuit and open circuit in excitation coil or armature coil.

The rectifier is stained and the mica sheet is protruding, resulting in poor contact between the brush and the rectifier.
